press in germany reports LH cargo selling all of their eight 747 freighters and acquiring 5 used MD-11 to make a full MD-11 fleet of 19.

where will these 5 MD-11 come from ?

three 747 will go to icelandair, from where LCAG will have an option to lease back.

does anybody know where the other five 747 will go ? word has it that northwest will acquire them and lease them to deutsche post world net (DPWM) for exclusive use of DHL/DanzasAEI

Wouldn't that be Air Atlanta Icelandic iso Icelandair? Atlanta already have 3 converted ex- LH -200s.

These infact are (LH 74F) for AIR ATLANTA ICELANDIC, Not Icelandic.
As for the MD11F's, It can either be Swiss International or Alitalia, as these would be from a European customer. It certainly is not Finnair.:oh:

How come the three ex-managers that srewed AFX ie, Cyclops,Orange and the Bison are now running Air Atlanta Europe?

Are they related?

Hope this time they can get it right with the new aircraft and that the end result is not the same as their last venture!
:p :p

MD11: 3 coming ex Varig, 2 coming ex Alitalia.

At least 3 B742 going to Air Atlanta and being wetleased right back. (As was planned for the beginning of 2001 already)
One B742 is being scrapped because itīs worn out.
Where the other four are going has not yet transpired.

MD11 are cheap right now. (I wonder why)
B744 not (yet).
They like the resulting fleet commonality. Many donīt like the fact of not being able to offer own 747Fs.
MD11F/SF will in effect only augment the huge "fleet" of bellies they broker.

A few other minor details:
The difference between 8 B742s and 5 MD11s is ca. 140 cockpit jobs for LH-Cargo.
Condor wants to get rid of at least 12 B757 in the near term, all of them in the mid-term.
Lufthansa is reducing its continental fleet (B737).

Major contracts are coming up for negotiations...

LH currently ACMI'ing Atlanta B742F to cover for other LH B742Fs on big Japan charter program.
When are the Condor B757s going to be ready for conversion?

Word direct from Boeing is that absolute life limits (hours/cycles) are to be imposed on B747 aircraft (amoung others) shortly, so switching now (to the MD-11) would be good form indeed.

Don't know if I'm refering to the correct contract, but LH are flying full loads of BMW cars from MUC to Japan.
Saw a load on Sunday while doing our F1 flights to IND. As a side-note, I was told LH have egg on their faces; they're routing via TAS - after 2 flights, got their overflights pulled, though no idea why (probably someone wanting $$$$)
Cargolux has one of the CC freighters since last week.
