This is embarrasing - new XP laptop goes to chat and says 'connecting' with 'needs Java Compatible Browser' warning on the top line.

Then nothing happens.

I have spent hours looking through various 'options' and looking up on web, but can't work out what to do.

I am sure answer is simple but beyond me - any suggestions please ??

TimS,

1) On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click Start, and then click Run.

2) Type: cmd

3) At the command prompt, type: jview
If a message displays information about Java, you have the Microsoft VM installed on your computer.
If a message displays 'Jview' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file, you do not have the Microsoft VM installed on your computer.

Take Care,

Richard

TimS,

No need to reinstall WinXP. Just go to the Sun Microsystems and download Java there.

TimS I think you will find that owing to long court cases M$ are no longer allowed to supply their version (since SP1 I think) of Java. So you are left with the Sun version.

A quick question to those out there who have Sun's Java application, do you find it really slow and system intensive? I had it on for a while but had to dig abour for the M$ version as you hardly notice it is there.

Front_Seat_Dreamer,

If you have a copy of the Mircrosft Version for WinXP, could you link it or email it to me.

Thanx,

Richard
