PPL(A) EASA -issued through UK

Hello,

I have the following issue. I converted my South Africa CPL to a UK PPL(A) in accordance with Part-FCL in 2013 and have done SEP(Land) revalidations on a 2 year basis with an instructor (since I have been flying hardly at all).

I live now in Germany and have the following questions:

a) As I understand, I can use a German class 2 medical for this licence. I do not need to go the UK medical examiner , right ?

b) Are there any instructors/examinarers in Germany, who I can revalidate my SEP (land) rating with. Mine has expired this May.

I want to avoid having to go to the UK to do this.

Thanks for your help and

keep safe

Christian

If your rating has expired, you will need a renewal not a revalidation. To do this you will need an ATO to issue you with a Course Completion Certificate before you can be tested; that does not mean you have to do any flying before the test. Any German Examiner can conduct the test in accordance with the EASA Examiner Differences Doc and should be able to get CAA permission to sign your licence.

Thanks for the info. Could I ask a German ATO to obtain Course completion certificate ? Or does the ATO need to be especially approved by UK CAA ?

A little bit of semantics, I know, but, as I understand it:

As your Medical Records need to be held by the State that issued your Licence, a German Class 2 Medical is not valid.

However, a German Medical Examiner may conduct your medical but must then send the details to the UK CAA.

Re the medical, any EASA medical certificate is valid however; the details would have to be sent to the medical dept of the State that issued your licence. As I understand it, the German authorities have a data protection issue re sending certificates to another State. Nothing to stop you photocopying it and sending it to the CAA.
I deliberately didn't answer the medical question as I knew there was an issue which manifests itself if you try to change your State of issue from Germany to another State.
