Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

CAA EASA licence deciphering

is there a decode anywhere to check whether a licence is valid, complete with all extensions, priveleges, ratings , revalidation requirements etc. etc.

My (Irish) EASA licence has section XIII showing validity of the bits and pieces and credits etc and Section XII has remarks and restrictions. Then, naturally, each rating should appear on the appropriate pages of the licence. My Examiners Authority references FCL.1005.FI as to what I can examine. IIRC my old UK one referenced FCL.905.FI PART-FCL which gives a decode of the (a)s, (b)s, (c)s etc as to what the actual FI privs are.

Revalidation requirements are not shown on the licence but can be found in FCL.900s for each class of instructor. The expiry date is, obviously, stated on the ratings page.
HTH - or have I misread your request?

yes thank you DD, i should've got out the magnifying glass! i think ive decoded most of it:-
FCL.905.FI /(a)/(b)/(e)/(g)/(g)(IR(R))/FCL.945.
was wondering why g was mentioned twice.
while surfing the net some time back, i came across a very useful guide , just pointing to every section of your licence and telling you exactly what it all means, can i find it now!!!!!!!, it was easier than going through the fcl.900's. but if thats what it takes..

Most licences have a copy of the decode for FIs included in the licence folder.

The (g) is for IR instruction, The (g)(IR(R)) is for IR(R)/IMC Rating instruction for those who have taken advantage of the reduced course prerequisites. IN–2015/009 refers.

Thanks Whopity, found it.
Thanks Ex oggie, i presume usual rules apply, cant teach for a rating unless you are yourself current on it, so OK for the IR(R), but will need to renew the IR to teach it, much demand??
