The way to ME/IR(A) with a helicopter license

Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

The way to ME/IR(A) with a helicopter license

I tried different google searches and consulted several flight schools, but they provide me with different answers and solutions.

Basically I want to obtain a ME/IR(A). My current licenses ATPL(H)+IR, CPL(A) + expired SEP. I have approximately 40 hours in a FNTP2 simulator and 20 hours on a light turbine twin. However, this was all military and no civilian skill test was performed at the end.

Would one of you professionals be able to provide me with a answer leading to my ME/IR? If you have any advice on which school in Europe is able to help me in the most quickest and cheapest way, that would be highly appreciated.

Break dip!

I suggest your best option is to add an MEP to your CPL then using the CBM route add the IR using any credits you have from your IR(H). Just look for a ATO offering the CBM IR and ask for an assessment.

I agree with Whopity that your first step should be an ME class rating but there is no need to concern yourself with the CB-IR. The holder of an IR(H) need only complete 10 hours of training for the IR(A) - the Regulation appears to suggest that this should all be done in the aeroplane, which is probably a good idea.

I had a similar question just before there break, but I can't seem to find if there is any minimum ME IF time - having completed MEC a training it has been suggested that a number of hours of the 10 may be SE but I've yet to receive comment from the appropriate CA.

Also, it was suggested that there would be no need to do the ME Class training if all that is required is the ME/IR - bumping up the ME segment of the 10 hours IR requirement. THis was in response to the need for the ME IR SPA to start a type rating, having no intention in the immediate future to use the ME Class... comments welcome...
