Addition of new type to TRI.

Dear all,

I have a TRI for a Multi pilot aircraft. Wanted to add a new type MP type as a TRI. I am reading one thing, that is not clear and being told another way at the same time. Any one with recent experience of doing this.

Can I ask what I need to do?
Which form? UKCAA.

Thank you in advance.

I do not have recent experience of this so all I can do is quote from the Regulation.

From Commission Regulation (EU) No 1178/2011:

FLC.910.TRI TRI - Restricted Privileges

(a) [..]

(b) TRI for aeroplanes and for powered-lift aircraft — TRI(A) and TRI(PL). The privileges of a TRI are restricted to the type of aeroplane or powered-lift aircraft in which the training and the assessment of competence was taken. Unless otherwise determined by in the operational suitability data established in accordance with Part-21, the privileges of the TRI shall be extended to further types when the TRI has:
(1) completed within the 12 months preceding the application, at least 15 route sectors, including take-offs and landings on the applicable aircraft type, of which 7 sectors may be completed in an FFS;
(2) completed the technical training and flight instruction parts of the relevant TRI course;

(3) passed the relevant sections of the assessment of competence in accordance with FCL.935 in order to demonstrate to an FIE or a TRE qualified in accordance with Subpart K his/her ability to instruct a pilot to the level required for the issue of a type rating, including pre-flight, post-flight and theoretical knowledge instruction.
(c) [..]
It looks as though the application form to be used is the SRG 1133 and the examiner should complete the form SRG 2199.

This is what I had understood. i.e. via the ATO a course on the type as instructor,

Ground school 25 hrs and flight / sim training 10 hrs.
AoC.

However, I am being told by a head of training if you all ready have a TRI on a MPA and the experience, you do not need to do the course and AoC!

What he is saying is from TRI.TRI.9.10

(d) Notwithstanding the paragraphs above, holders of a TRI certificate who have been issued with a type rating in accordance with FCL.725(e) shall be entitled to have their TRI privileges extended to that new type of aircraft.

But the UK CAA form does not allow for this!

I've just added a SFI on one type to an existing SFI on another, I think it's the same process? Bar the sectors etc for TRI.
In theory it's a 3 hour observed session on an actual type rating course on new type-not dummy trainees as per the TRI course-which means it's almost impossible! The 3 hours is the AOC and has to be done by a TRE/SFE of more than 3 years. Otherwise it's a TRI course on type, minus days 1&2 or the teaching and lesrning(formally core course) part.
I managed to go the 3 hours as I work for the ATO and they have approval to do it. I called around to try and get someone to do my TRI on the type I fly on the same 3 hour setup and no one would touch me

Don't look here often, PM if needed, did this 2 weeks ago.
