Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

CASA Principles/Methods Instruction MOS question

OK so a sincere question for those in the know...

I'm trying to come up with an explanation to this one from Schedule 3 of CASA's new Part 61 Manual Of Standards

Unit 3.2.15
Explain the advantages and disadvantages of the teaching methods listed and give practical examples of situations best suited to each of these techniques in flight training:
(a) lecture;
(b) theory or skill lesson;
(c) group learning;
(d) guided discussion;
(e) briefing."

The CASA give little to no guidance in their instructor manuals. Have checked the FAA instructors manual and have found plenty of info on lectures, group learning and guided discussion. Nothing found that distinguishes a "theory or skill lesson" or a "briefing".

How would you describe these ("theory or skill lesson" and "briefing")in a way that distinguishes them from the other techniques? Any pointers would be great.

Thanks
