IR(H) dispensation for IR(A)

Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

IR(H) dispensation for IR(A)

Hi everyone,

I have a rather obscure question so I thought it best placed here, hopefully I can drawn on your collective knowledge!

I notice that under CAP 804 Section 4 Part L states a dispensation for holders of an IR(H) towards training for an IR(A). To save copying a lot of text I'm happy with the contents of paragraph 8 which addresses the training for the multi side of life, but the dispensation I speak of is this:

10.2 The holder of an IR(H) may have the total amount of training required in paragraphs 7 or 8 above reduced to 10 hours.1

1. The UK CAA issued a derogation under Article 14 of the Basic Regulation to reflect that “the holder of an IR(H) may have the total training required in paragraphs 7 or 8 reduced to 10 hours.”

Do any of you have any experience of this dispensation being invoked and or of any training providers that have done it in the past, and are thus familiar with its application in practice of going from a multi IR(H) to a multi IR(A).

Any help much appreciated.
Regards.

I did this many years ago and also found extensive concessions for my (no longer current) IR(H). Very useful.

I did mine at Bristol Flight Centre who have (had) quite a reputation for taking military helo pilots (who had often managed to get an IR(H)) through the FW system. Suggest you talk to them at least.

The dispensation is to revert to the rule as it was under JAA (EASA screwed it up by saying that the full IR(A)course had to be completed). JAA allowed a conversion course of 10 hours.

I understand that the EASA rule will be changed to reflect the dispensation.

There is no need to do anything special to 'invoke the dispensation'. The dispensation allows a 10 hour course. That is what we have in our Training Manual and that is what we would provide.
