Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

Examiners checking CAT II/III but only CAT II/III rated on other type

Hi all,

Can you legally carry out a CAT II / III checkride (JAR/EASA rules) as examiner if you are current on CAT II /III (as pilot) but not on the type you intend to do the check?

Thanks,

Ask your local authority. Not all things are completely EU-OPS regulated yet and there are some differences between countries.

Over here a CAT II/III check can only be done by a TRE which has to be appointed a TRE by the authority for the type in question. Therefore no, our boeing TREs cannot do airbus CAT II/III qualification checks or vice versa (there is no license entry anymore for CAT II/III).

Thanks for that Denti. I thought because CAT II/III is an OPS 'thing', you might not need to be CAT II/III on the type (FCL) you do the check on. But then again CAT II/III SOPs are also depending on type...I will ask the CAA, probably the best.

Cheerio
