Definitions in JAR-FCL-1

Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

Definitions in JAR-FCL-1

I was reading JAR-FCL-1 about requirements for CPL(A) and IR(A) and I was unable to determine whether an 'applicant' is a person before commencing the approved course or before the practical exam itself? I tried with JAR-1, but definition of an applicant there surely isn't appropriate in this case.

Any thoughts?

JAR-1 was written long after most other JARs and one wonders why such a definition is required. An Applicant is a person who makes an application whatever it may be for.
