Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

Thumbs up FI Pay??

HI there,

I am considering becoming a FI but need to know if I can survive on the pay. What is the average salary or pay rate at your bigger schools for a ppl instructor?

Thank you
SAA

FI Pay

There are jobs for 20K as a PPL instructor, where I work freelance the pay for fulltimers is 15K plus 25ph after 20 hours so if you average 50 hours a month thats about 24K. Some of the commercial instructors are on 40K plus. Freelance we get 25ph. I get to fly the latest state of the art aircraft and get good students. I instruct along side my business . It all depends on how the organisation views instructors, some relalize there worth some dont, some quite frankly abuse them, to be a good instructor is not all about flying skills its much more than that, so sell your all round skills, and get the best deal you can, do your research, its never going to pay a fortune, its hard work but can be extremely rewarding, freelance is best for me but you have to be flexible I personnally could not do it full time but many do, and the fact of life is many use the job as a stepping stone if that the case for you maintain high standards and produce the best PPLs you can even if you dont do it for too long, always have your students interests in the front of your mind.
