Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

How Do You Become A PPL Ground and RT Instructor/Examiner?

Hi Guys
What do you need to do to teach PPL/NPPL groundschool and examine in same subjects? Do you need an AFI/FI rating? Also how do you become an RT instructor/examiner for the issue of an RT licence?
Many Thanks
Eff Oh

Teaching and Examining are two entirely different things. Anyone can teach the subjects however to examine them you need to fulfill certain requirements:

For PPL Examiners see Standards Doc 11 http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/SRG_FCL_11.PDF
and For RTF Examiners see Stds Doc 4 http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/pld_std4v05.pdf

Thank you. I am aware that they are entirely different things. I was unaware that "Anyone" can teach." Thanks for the links. Most useful.

You should take a look at the AOPA Ground Instructor Cert if you don`t have an FI rating... AOPA: Ground Instructor Course It's a very worthwhile course and handy to have when negotiating fees etc.

Ref R/T examiner ticket... much could depend on your location and local requirements.

As windriver says, getting the RT Examiner authority can be a matter of 'dead man's shoes'. There's a limit on the number permitted at each school/locality.
