Overflight Permits

I need some info on obtaining Overflight Permits.

As a department, we are now looking to obtain overflight permits ourselves rather than using a third party provider (or at least using them as little as possible). However, we struggling to find any decent info on the subject.

Does anyone have any info on how we were to go about this?

FYI, we do not use SITA or AFTN.

Thanks.

A few pointers:
- Start with each country individual AIP. There you will find permit requirements info:
AIS by State | Eurocontrol
- You're going to struggle without AFTN. How do you file your flight plans without SITA or AFTN? Most flight planning systems come with a AFTN address you can use to request permits.
- For some countries you will have to go through an agent, no way around that.
- Start building you own database of useful contacts.

Some countries insist on email applications and still ignore them :ugh:

Having a good agent, or having knowledge of the "tricks of the trade" will save you a whole lot of time, and to be honest, a few dollars spent on certain countries will outweigh the stress you may encounter by going direct.

Example, why waste your time applying for a China, Russia, Armenia or Sri Lanka overfly permit when you don't need one :ok:
