Please Help.... Security Officer with baa

I have applied for the position as; Female Security Officer with baa at London Heathrow. I have been invited to the assessment day and I am so worried about the verbal reasoning test and observation test, as they are elimination stage!! PLEASE can someone give me some advice, have you been what I should expect? Many thanks to all you kind people in advance for any response!!!

British Grenadier 2nd Nov 2010 20:38

Just be as obnoxious as you can possibly be , that seem's to be BAA criteria !!!! but good luck anyway , and as you manage to get in to BA at Gatwick you shouldn't have any probs with this lot , and just be yourself .....

gymlizzy 2nd Nov 2010 21:54

Many thanks for your message, but I am so worried about this I am thinking about not going..... Its the tests that are bothering me as know I wont pass. :(

james finlayson 2nd Nov 2010 23:42

I don't know anything about the tests themselves, but if you have applied for a post with the BAA and they have invited you to an assessment test, they must have seen in your application something that they are looking for. If they hadn't, they wouldn't bother wasting their time in inviting you along.

You have just as much chance as anyone else going to the test of getting through it. Think positive. You've got through the application process, you can get through the test.

Go along and do the test. Even if you fail it, you will know what to expect next time you apply for a job.

Good luck, and have self belief!

James, thank you for your kind words, I just hate tests and fall apart. Still thinking about it so will let you know if I go or not. Thanks once again. :)

BAA Security Interview help

Hi gymlizzy

I have an assessment next Saturday, can you tell me how yours went?
How was the verbal reasoning test in particular? I've been practising these and they are HARD!
Any help would be appreceiated
Many thanks

bolahoun 17th Nov 2010 19:12

def not worth it!

my friends got invited to the last set, and we knew someone who worked there.. apparently its so hard.. one of them didnt bother and the other told us that out of the 30 people there no one passed the first few elimination stages so everyone was out by 3pm!
also because you confirm to not swap your shifts, the first year you have to do horrible hours and almost every friday saturday and sunday..
i got through to next saturday myself but i'm not going now, what a waste of a saturday!

British Grenadier 20th Nov 2010 15:39

bolahoun , can i ask what job you do now ?????

Piltdown Man 20th Nov 2010 21:55

No need for verbal reasoning - just grunt! No need to be clever, no need to use your brain - when doing the job you'll only follow rules. So all you have to do is write with the crayons provided "Errm" to every question and you'll pass. And when you get the job, which you will, just be totally unpleasant to everybody you can and you'll fit in with the rest of your colleagues. If you really want to be nasty, you could run bets with your new colleagues on how unpleasant you can be with members of the public before getting reported. But please don't expect any respect from anybody. And don't expect any crews to be pleasant to you.

Hi gymlizzy,

The pass mark for these tests are based on percentages attained, the observation one can be the most taxing as timescales are involved, how did you get on?

simone82 2nd Feb 2011 15:00

hi

has anyone got through the assessment day and of so what are the next steps?

I have to have a medical this friday but have also been told I have one last interview with BAA and a uniform fitting? Has anyone ever failed at this last stage??? very nervous!!!:uhoh:

Just concentrate on the basics... Be as obnoxious as possible... Pretend you are even thicker than you are... Clearly demonstrate your total lack of common sense, and hatred for anyone who you perceive to earn more than you do ... Get these right and the jobs yours ..oh and it might help to lean a few stock phrases such as " i dont make the rules mate .."only doing my job" ETC ETC:p

Hello guys,

Anyone got the job?
How is it like?

Thanks.

From the grammar of the applicants, they seem emminently qualified! :yuk:

Bit of a defeatist attitude. If you go and you give your all and dont get it, then so be it. At least you tried!

If you decide not to go because you dont have the drive for the job then yes you deserve not to get it.

If you want the job then go and give it your all, if you arent bothered then dont waste both your time and their time by going to the test. I would love in the current climate to say "na im not bothered about that job, im not going to go." But that isnt possible.

You might wish to check your spelling before you post comments such as this!

Although I accept that aynone can make a typo!

Unlike carousel, I believe that the public deserve the very best protection that can be provided. Entrance tests that "are not designed to stretch the grey matter too much" are an example of a system created to employ people who are little more than bottom feeders. It certainly backs up opinion that intelligence, ability and aptitude are irrelevant. carousel also goes on to prove this by describing the people who pay his wages as a "pain." Matey - get real, no passengers, no job! But it does reinforce my opinion that security at UK airports is little more than a farce. Therefore, quite reasonably I treat the systems operatives, proponents and adherents with appropriate contempt.

And yes, in reality even Piltdown might even be earning less than you... So? But you lovely people will quite happily give me an aeroplane as long as I'm not a naughty boy. Yes, I stick to the (ridiculous) DFT requirements but also make sure that I say nothing to any security goon so I can't be accused of anything. Anyway, I don't have to bypass the system. All I need is a knocked off bit of plastic (like the one I use now maybe?), a few gold rings and off we go. So who has won? If your job is to make the place safer by following the rules you have lost because I have the plane with no real checking made on my presence whatsoever! That is not security.

I'll admit I can't stand security people. Virtually every single one gets my goat. The job they do is little more than pointless and its effect is negligible. But it does keep the unemployable off the unemployment records. With the simple entrance tests you could say that it's a form of "care in the community." But it does keep the travelling public happy. Unfortunately, they believe the "strict rules" give them some form of protection. Oh dear! The reality is, only when we have proper profiling and security protocols will the UK security system have any validity. Come the next atrocity, which the current bunch of nitwits enable by letting the perpetrators through, will that actually be put in place? I doubt it. Instead we'll all be double or triple checked, maybe even with X-Rays and maybe even microwaves.

Finally, I just wonder how many Ryanair second officers carousel has let past recently?

Carousel , you have just described the typical BAA Security clown , most of your colleague's ain't ex Military or Police or Fire service type's their mainly 3rd world gupta's or chavs , and couldn't get a proper job outside of security , the amount of security staff that play with their I phones or are texting whilst they are meant to be scanning bags or staff is farcical , and the reason the sudden upsurge in foot patrols at LHR is due to BAA being caught out to a recent security check by powers above from outside , and the Airport Duty Managers car having an out of date air side pass as well ( two months ), i personally having been ex forces , marvel at your colleagues x-ray hands when searching , staff and pax's , and the lack of proper enforcement of security legislation , you can't take that yogurt through here !!! :=:= but then the staff get swapped on a break , and it's yeah OK mate but don't do it again !!!! :ugh::ugh: , you might be the Guv'nor at the Airport , but I'll bump in to you one day outside of the Airport , and ........oh happy day's ............:E:E.:ok::ok:
Oh and if you think that's a threat , i don't do threat's only promises :):):)

All the OP required was a bit of help. Some of the responses have been vile. Shame on those concerned - we all have a job to do, whether you like it or not.
