Question Career move to airport ops

I'm based in the West of the UK and have seen two jobs recently for airside ops officer at two different airports which, frankly, sound like the type of thing I should have got into years ago.

I'm late 20s and a marketing manager in the consumer side of the aviation industry. Life behind a desk has finally run its course - I want to be active and don't give a about bad weather.

What (other than direct experience) might help me to make the move?

I'm thinking of taking an IATA airport ops course to improve my theoretical knowledge, I'm reasonably academic when it comes to subjects that I'm actually interested in. My last marketing diploma was a bit like treacle.
