Jeppview 5

Is it just me, or is it even worse than version 4, which is itself way worse than version 3?
The change to the map layout renders it nearly unusable. Zooming in on a particular area is barely possible. It's totally unclear and very slow, especially when compared to the rock-solid and crystal-clear version 3.

Also when attempting to use version 3, I get various errors relating to the magnetic variation table, so version 5 has screwed that up too. Reinstalled version 3, still doesn't work.

Why do Jeppesen make things worse, not better?

Yep, Jeppview 5 is sucky

I'm having the same 'user experience' as you, after using Jeppview 5 for the first time. I'm finding the 'Ground VFR' format harder to interpret than the 'Euro VFR' in JV 4, and it is certainly slower when navigating around, presumably due to the higher resolution terrain detail. I also agree that V3 gave a better overall user experience.

For me Jepp has been left way behind by the likes of SkyDemon, at least for VFR usage. I only keep Jeppview because the terminal charts offer a consistent set of charts for most of Europe, whereas SkyDemon only offers digitized VFR charts from the AIP's of different countries, which are all in different formats and some of which have to be paid for seperately.

Behind the products I think Jepp has the best quality/detail dataset for terrain, obstacles, roads/rivers etc .. mainly because they must have this data in order to have produced the paper charts, which were genuinely usable for VFR navigation. However, their execution in delivering this in electronic form is really poor. Wouldn't be surprised if they quit the VFR end-products and concentrate on being a data provider for other firms.

My verdict is that there is little reason to use Jeppview unless you want all the terminal charts.

I switched to Lido charts. Jeppesen is getting annoying.
