Getting references from BMI
Quick question: now that British Midland no longer exists, how would one go about getting a reference to account for any time of employment by them? I’m talking about references that are needed to apply for an airside ID at a BAA airport, not a ‘standard’ employer reference.
Thanks in advance for any help.

They will accept a conformation from the tax office that you were emplyed on PAYE from X date to Y date.
Its what pilots do when a compnay goes bust or they get a mate who is in pro job like what you require to sign passport photos to sign off the period.
Each airport is different some accept some things some accept others.

Well, my last airport ID of any kind was issued at LHR, while working for BMI. I worked there for roughly a year and left about two years ago. EDIT: For clarification, I'm looking at coming back to work at LHR.

If you have a P60 I think it is from that year it should be fine but really you need to go and speak to the people that issue the things even around BAA airports there are differences between ID units depending on which contractor is running the security.
Its actually a pretty common problem with the amount of companys that have gone in the last few years.
You may also find as well that if it was mainline BMI you were working for your records are actually still about as its been bought by BA.

It was indeed mainline BMI... OK, thank you, I'll make some enquiries. I was just concerned that it would significantly hamper me (or even prevent me from) accounting for my time there, but if there's an alternative way of doing so, then that's fine.

Would it be worth checking with BA whether they have my records? If so, would anyone know the contact details of the appropriate department?
Thank you all, again.

Staff who were employed to "the end" were given the following address as a point or reference, not sure how far back the records go but it could be worth a try:-
People Service Employee Contact

British Airways
