Passenger Service Agent Jobs

I'm currently looking for either full or part time Passenger Service Agent jobs at Gatwick, however I'm having little success so far, as advertised vacancies seem few and far between.

Does anyone have any advice on where to look, who to contact perhaps? Most handling companies such as Menzies don't appear to ever have any vacancies listed on their website and I've been checking for several months.

I imagine that at present in the current job market, competition for any vacancy is likely to be fierce!

I appreciate any comments!

Its horses for courses - some people like working with people, some don't.
Its a shame when the ones that don't are the ones that do it!

Don't forget that despite the crap - without the paying customers none of us would have a job.

Good luck to you Tim91 - I hope you find a position. If you have language skills and/or any previous customer service experience, make sure that is clear in your CV.

I have worked in Pax svs, im now working in load control. Theres no doubt i like load control 10 x more. However, without my experience with the way a pax svs dept runs and what problems could occur with bags, check in, what they do on the way to the gate etc. I would be far less knowledgeable in my current job.

I second that and say good luck. If you like working with people and dont mind the mad hours you'll more than enjoy that job.

my best advice is "mail shot" all of the handling agents at LGW. its the summer now. Even if you only get something temp or part time (with the state of the economy) you will still have your foot in the door so to speak. if you shine at your job they if they can they will keep you

PSA vacancies

Actually quite surprisingly there's been quite a few jobs available at Gatwick, the problem is there all temporary for the summer which is fine for me but might not be for you and a lot are part time. I have just got a job with Swissport at they've already taken on around 60 people (all part time) for the summer and are looking for more, try the agency who recruit for them (google “premier work support”).

Menzies took on a lot of people for the summer as well in May, quite a few full time and again a lot part time. I think there's a few posts left as a friend of mine has just applied. "The recruitment place" do their recruitment.

Servisair was the only handling agency that didn't really take on many staff. I know they took on a few part time temporary staff in May as I know a few people who were offered some positions but it wasn't to the degree of swissport/menzies and they’re not recruiting anymore.

Getting a job as a PSA is surprisingly easy despite the current climate. I was called forwards for an interview for swissport a couple of days after I applied and told at my interview I had the job. This was also the case with a lot of other people; I think almost everyone at my interview got the job. A couple of days after I accepted the job a I was offered an interview at menzies as well (I have no airport experience!)

The best website is reed.co.uk. All the recruitment agencies use it and at one point there was at least 5 adverts on their for PSA positions.

Good luck although the majority of recruitment has been done there's still a few positions available!

Tim I got my job by writing directly to the handling agent. Said I was looking to get into aviation as it was a strong interest of mine and was willing to be flexible and learn and start at the bottom.
I got offered a job the following week for Summer only but it then became permanant. It was high turnover industry back then and I can't see its changed much now.
It will be a welcome enquiry Im sure as it means they wont have to pay agency fees and they have someone who actually WANTS to work for them!
Also shows you have done some research if you know who to contact. If you can get the name of the station manager and address the enquiry directly to them all the more brownie points :-)
