Ubaid here, Im surprised you havent got a job yet , sorry to hear that, good luck though man , Im still looking for a job as well , i think what we both need is a little bit of experience, we need to get our hands onsome of these flight planning softwares and get familiar with day to day dispatch practices.
What about Snedon? has any body from our batch got a job? apart from the "already employed dispatchers" who were here to get a license.

Up until the end of October 2008 when my contract comes to an end i will have had a very satisfying 5 years (it's a record) as a Crew Scheduler in AMS and am looking forward to the next challenge, whatever that may be.

Hey all, I'm interested in what a dispatcher in the UAE would get paid. Anyone want to share their paycheck numbers, or have any info? any expats going out there on contracts?
To answer the poster who asked about salaries, they can and usually are dismal with the exception of Emirates/Etihad/AirArabia and those companies require several years of time served. Expect in the region of 1500 usd but it can be better or worse. dXB too expensive to live on that salary however.
A previous poster suggested that the gulf job marker was monopolised by Indians, is this the experience of others?
For other possible jobs try Eastern Sky Jets in DXB also try NasAir and Aramco in Saudi Arabia. RUH/DMM
I put a post on today (mainly as I am still a newbie) and 'the board' encouraged me to. But a couple of hours later, and more than 30 looks, not one person has replied.
I read your post, and see you have been doing it (dispatching) for ages.
My son is looking around for a new post in despatch, and I am trying to help him get an idea on what kind of money he can expect. He would really like to be a pilot, but because of eyesight issues, he cannot.
He is doing his FAA exam and really enjoys the job, which is the most important. But with an eye to the future, I wonder what he can realistically expect to earn ? One poster above said around the equivalent of US$1500 per month in the Gulf. He is in Europe.
Dispatchers really seem like the 'unsung heroes' of aviation. I had no idea they had to be so clever. Yet it's the pilots who get all the kudos seems to me.
I'd be grateful for your comments if you get time.
I was a flight dispatcher and on duty manager/ shift leader on FUTURA INTERNAITONAL AIRWAYS. I did a flight operations course with Futura, and another courses for B737-300-400-800-900, FPPM, ETOPS, Dangerous goods... but i don't have a license, here in Spain it's not necessary (Spain is different). My question is, It's possible for me to get a job as a dispatcher without license but with 3 years experince? Where can I get my license in Europe? Do you have info about courses? When? where? How much??
ICAO Dispatcher Certification based on prior experience
Lasno,
As far as Europe is concerned, you may be able to get a ICAO license in Frankfurt but I do not know what experience requirements are required to be eligible for a short course.
However, pending acceptance of your experience documents, you may qualify based on your experience without having to take a full course as per Title 14 United States Code (Federal Aviation Regulations) Part 65. There are a few schools in the U.S. that do this. I know Jeppesen even has a short 2 weeks program leading to an ICAO FAA Dispatcher's Certificate (license) for you in Denver. Go to the Jeppesen web site and search for it.
With the ICAO FAA license, conversion to a Canadian, UAE, Malaysia, Singapore and a few other countries authorization can be done rather easily. Certain Asian countries such as India and Sri Lanka have delusional requirements, they do not even facilitate conversions, designed to preserve jobs for the chosen few, but that will have to change very soon given the expansion plans for the next 15-20 years.
Until 9/11, you could take the full FOM1 & 2 course at EK College in DXB and test for an ICAO FAA license on site but this has since been terminated. Now all the testing is now done only in the U.S. due to terrorism concerns. If you have a European passport than you may even qualify for a visa waiver to enter the U.S.
I hope this will assist you in facilitating your dreams. Good luck!
