crew rostering question - please help!

Hi,

I'm studyihg computer science (hoping to launch me into the airline industry) and am doing a project on writing a piece of software which produces rosters for the crew of a small regional airline. I was wondering if anyone could describe the process in real life for the organisation of pilots and the flights they do in a week. I would be really grateful.

Thanks,
