QANTAS Apprenticeships 2015

Hello all,

So I've been looking to get into aircraft maintenance for some time now.
Since leaving school, I've completed my own pre-vocational course in my own time and with my own money.

What I cannot understand are the requirements for this round of QANTAS apprenticeships.

In particular the following:

LAUNCH YOUR CAREER WITH QANTAS AND YOU'RE OFF TO A FLYING START!

Brisbane Aircraft Trades (Avionics, Structures and Mechanical) are only open to applicants who have completed or are completing a prevocational course in Aero Skills with one of the following institutions:

• Aviation Australia (Brisbane/ Cairns);
• ATAE; or
• QLD Institute for Aviation Engineering.

Why such a select few RTOs?
Why should it matter at what RTO my training took place?
The training uses the same national competency based system from one place to another. Am I missing something?

Does anyone else think this is somewhat discriminatory?

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a sense of self-entitlement. Other people have worked just as hard as me to get where I am.
I am just trying to understand their reasons for this criteria.

Chances are, QF has an agreement with those RTOs. You can always contact QF careers and mention which RTO you did your pre-voc with. In the end, if you really want to get in, apply anyway and if they knock you back, you're no worse off.
Don't forget, Virgin also have an apprenticeship program now.

It is due to a number of factors.
Apprenticeships are now based IN Brisbane
Due to the different RTO's way of doing the cert 2 or pre apprenticeship means that you can only go to them to complete your cert 4.

It is all about money these days and what is meant to be a common national system it is far from it.

I had a feeling they might be the case.
In the end I did end up submitting an application, as I would be no worse off.

Due to the different RTO's way of doing the cert 2 or pre apprenticeship means that you can only go to them to complete your cert 4.

I'm no expert in the training/assessing field. But I would imaging there would be a governing body, quality or check & balance in place to prevent this type of act from occurring.
