Emirates Engineering - Recruitment Process

Hi everyone,
I've been shortlisted for about a month now, and still no date for the phone interview. Is this normal? Should I put my life on hold? Can anyone please share their experience with Emirates recruitment process? Also, any advice for the interview will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

This isnt good!!

i read about how bad Etihad were and that they should get themselves along to Emirates! now Emirates is being bagged!

i know you have to be carefull when going to work in the middle east, and a lot of weather or not you enjoy it is down to the individual, but there must be something good out there?

Hello my unknown Canadian friend,
Things are slow in the ME so just sit back and relax!
Try to get hired in the hangar if you can, trust me!
You came to the forum to find answers, you want to work for EK, you have your reasons. You will find people quick on the keyboard telling only one side of the story, I try to be fair and honest.
1 you will not become a millionaire by working for Emirates
2 you will make and save more money than in Canada
3 they will make you work hard for your money
4 you will love or hate Dubai
If you join the hangar: you will work 3 days 3 days off, few nights
Line: 2 days 2 nights 4 off 6 to 6. well and 9 pm to 9 am
one extra day or night a month for lieu hours ( then you have to beg your shift manager to take those hours back
you will hate the summer breeze from May till September
When you join you will get a temporary approval for 3 months with an extension for another 3 months. During that time you have to write air leg, first a multiple choice then essay. If you fail you will loose your temp license. It will take at least a year to get your GCAA license. These are the good times, you will end up enjoying the ride, doing sweet f@ck all.
Some guys managed to enjoy EK's free ride for 3 years

If you make it to the interview, try to talk to the guys and walk around with your eyes open!
Good luck mate!

Cap 77,
Did you read something positive in what greesemonkey01 (maybe an ek hr recruiter) said ?
Do not keep your eyes too widely opened as you will get some powder or maybe sand throwed in them ...
Do yourself a favour , stay where you are or , you and your family will regret it ...

Heres some more " True" Information regarding EK.

1. Believe me Emirates is just a name, you will be better off going connieing somewhere and earning some "proper" money.

2. The salary they pay is not that great you can earn twice as much contracting!

3. It is true you will sit around and wait for months and months on end doing absolutely bugger all, you are basically just forgotten about!

4. You have to get a letter from the authority who issues your current license to confirm that "this is" your license, before the GCAA will give you a temporary license, this is because some stupid cock used his mates license! Oh and you will wait for an eternity for Emirates Quality to issue a temp approval, once you have this your temp license will have nearly expired...........!
5. If you have the inclination you will eventually have to do loads of studying to get what is affectively a cornflake license that is required there by the GCAA, the GCAA are soooo backward they are still using the old BCAR section L system! Oh and the exams are multi choice and essay exams......an arse ache!
6.There is a lot of politics there with some dicks who are running the show, its very much a case if you don,t like it tough crap! .....And as for the lieu hours well this is a joke....you build up the hours then....you lose them cos theres no-one to woerk for you! you will have to do a compulsory "unpaid" yes "unpaid" shift once a month!!
7. In a nutshell.......go somewhere else!!!

Matmax - just because you apparently did not fit into the Emirates mould, does not mean that others will not either. Like it or not, there are Engineers currently with EK that are more than happy than seemingly you were. Perhaps you could keep your caustic remarks under your hat which hopefully will be ignored by prospective recruits !

Matmax is totally ignored, but Itsallbollox isn't.

I keep my eyes and ears open. I hear over and over again (from different sources) that $$ is not that good. You can't ignore that! And an unpaid shift?! He must be kidding!

Would you mind sharing more? I am sure there are always pros and cons. The more I know, the more Emirates will benefit from me because they'll have an informed EE with less surprises to face. You can respond to my PM if you choose.
I'd appreciate your response.

Nope - you work an extra day (or night) a month for free.

Keep discovering.

One question:
Do you guys not get paid extra $$ for your over time hours but rather get compensated by lieu time?

So, these first 12 hours in lieu time you never get to use? Is this how "unpaid shift" came up?

Also, did you guys get your profit share yet? Just to have an idea if that's another empty promise...

Thanks

Could anybody explain me why younger guys do not want to listen experienced ones ...?
Sharing his own experience is useless ...?

Perhaps because often more experience is never always relevant experience.

Matmax,

It may have something to do with how you respond to posts. I dont care one way or the other but your posts do come across as 'caustic' (as Terry McCassey put it).

The OP was looking for coherent answers to assist him with an important personal decision regaing his recruitment process at Emirates. To simply say dont go and then get upset that he is not immediately cancelling his application because of your negative responses is unrealistic.

Try toning down your responses and adding some substance to them, this may keep you off more ignore lists.

And Matmax, dont bother getting angry and telling me I should open my eyes, get out of Australia, get more experience, stop hating frenchies etc etc, because like it or not what I am doing is offering you constructive criticism.
