Precipitation Static Tester

Hi there,

Does anyone know if there is a Precipitation Static Tester available for use in, or close to New Zealand?

We've tried AirNZ and Safe but no luck.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I remember Precipitation Static well from my time as a Radio Officer in the Merchant Navy - we then called it Rain Static. It blotted out communication on AM transmissions especially 500 KHz the W/T Distress and calling frequency and 2182 KHz R/T distress frequency. Charged rain particles caused aerials to charge up - often wonder just how many ships were lost without trace due to MF communication loss.
Happened more in tropical areas. I didn't know there was a tester for it

No help with the tester sorry, unless you are passing Northolt!
Just wondered what a/c your problem is with?
I had great fun using ours to fault find a C550Bravo.
I'm not in work now and can't remember the name of the company that made the tester but I'm sure it was the only major company producing them.

Quick Google = Dayton-Granger!

A couple of years ago I would have passed Northolt on the way to Denham!!

The aircraft in question is a Cirrus. It's coms drop off in flight and Cirrus has suggested we try and find a Dayton-Granger tester.

Seems like you charge the aircraft up to 60kVa and get busy with a wand braced for impending doom!!

Hopefully we can find one of these testers and find the problem, as well as have some fun.

Plastic planes won't help - cos its a static charge The only answer is a giant deioniser and an infinitely long grounding wire
