Aviation Apprenticeship

Hi there. I am a (soon to be) chopped trainee air traffic controller. I am very keen to keep my foot in the aviation industry and am interested in persuing other paths. Does anyone know of any apprenticeships offered in the UK which do not require a degree, or would I be better to go to uni and try to get some sort of engineering degree (presumably mechanical)?

Thanks very much!

Ryanair run an aircraft engineering apprenticeship, based in their hangar in Prestwick. Requires a few A levels to get in

Thanks very much. The one with RYR at prestwick, do you have a web address or is there someone I can contact about it. I can't find any information about it myself. The careers pages on ryanair.com are advertising jobs for already type qualified engineers.

Thanks!

They advertise it on Ryanair.com, but you've missed the boat for this year. Usually recruit around september time.

Excellent!! I'll keep an eye out come September!!

Do you know if they have any age requirements? I have been looking into other apprenticeships and was advised that at my ripe old age (21) I would be older than most apprenticeship type employers would be looking ( on account of govt benefits and monetary benefits from employing someone under 18)

Thanks very much!!

I actually did this apprenticeship, although was based in Dublin, and worked with them for many years after. Joined at 18, but was youngest in the class.... they recruit up to 24 year olds. Keep an eye on their website for application form

Well, to answer your question, there are some. The one I'm looking at doing, is the Virgin Atlantic one. It's split between LHR and LGW, and is 4yrs long.
Take a look at their website under 'engineering' (on their UK site) for some general info on their engineering division. However, for some reason, they don't seem to advertice their apprenticeship at the moment.

BA also do a 3yr apprenticeship through Kingston uni.
