eurofighter

Surely the Lib-Dems can't be seriously considering the cancellation of phase 3 of the Eurofighter project??

Anyone got any more info?

sounds reasonable to me, its just not needed and its crimminal waste of money which could be far more usefully directed

True. I heard the compensation the UK would have to pay the other EU countries involved would be massive though. Not to mention the job losses. Just seemed a random aspect of their policy.

By cancelling the final tranche of Typhoon, the MoD would incur financial penalties (probably) far higher than any savings made by forgetting about the last 80 or so jets. Compensation would have to be paid to the other 3 partner nations as a result of the contracts that would be breached.

Not to mention the thousands of jobs lost and reduced armed forces capability.

It would be a bit of a pointless excercise in my opinion, the last tranche of aircraft will be the most cost effective anyway - since most of the budget for the project will have already been spent on research and development of the aircraft.
