My browser has been taken over by the following:

I have looked this up on Google and have not found a removal tool, I did find instructions on its removal via the registry, starting with going into regedit. Couldn't find a way in using Windows 7?

If anyone knows how to get rid of this annoying browser hijack I would be grateful to hear about it, system restore works on the first opening after restore but the hijack takes over thereafter.

Three sites quote the virus and specifically claim their product will get rid of it, none actually does, or even mentions/finds it when downloaded and installed! I already have Malawarebytes anti-Malaware installed and MS Security Essential installed, used to like AVG Pro until it let a well known virus in! Norton, forget it!

It appears to be software you have authorised yourself as part of a download (I understand Brothersoft use this) and is not considered to be 'malicious' and therefore the AV stuff will not remove it. There is always the possibility that you had a virus which 'facilitated' the programme so maybe try Malware bytes in safe mode.You have not said which browser nor have you said where the 'problem' appears - is it in search/toolbar or as home page?? If IE have a look in 'add-ons'. This came from a recent thread

If you mean Internet Explorer check your Add-ons, (Tools > Manage Add-ons). Look for any that suggest they may be a Conduit add-on or toolbar and disable it. Close that Manage Add-ons Window. For good measure, goto the View menu option in the menu bar, (if you cannot see it, press the ALT key on the keyboard), then Tools > Toolbars, then look for any Conduit toolbar and de-select it.

If Conduit shows as a Search bar in IE, right click it and see what options there are. Disable if you can.

Then back to Tools > Internet Options, General tab and make sure there is 'only one' entry for your preferred home page. If there are two joined together or on two lines, delete the unwanted one.

If you have something other than IE, then look for similar options.

the Conduit engine usually shows up in add/remove programs. Over the last year or so they've become much less covert and have been trying to become more "acceptable". Its still a piece of crapware though, that you would have downloaded with another program, probably a "free" one.
Removal is multipronged
Uninstall it in the usual way from add/remove programs
Disable / remove any plugins for it in your browsers
Reset default search engines back to Google or Bing (or whatever)
Then scan through the machine using Spybot S&D or Malwarebytes

Assuming you've no other nasties on there, then that should be enough

Thanks Gents. It didn't show in any scans, Malaware, MS Safety Scanner, MS Security or in the add-delete part of Programs, but I did manage to get to it in IE Browser Add Ons, it showed under a main heading of 'Conduit' and sub-headings of WiseConvert, I was able to disable it, (though having done it once it reappeared but so far OK, disabling the second time it has gone). Manage Add-Ons gave me a search destination of C:\Program Files (x86)\WiseConvert and when the file showed up in search I was able to delete it. Just have to wait and see! Haven't been into the Registry, using Windows 7 and the usual 'Run' box doesn't showp up! Any ideas how to do 'regedit' plesase? Thanks again.
