LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0

Has anybody else bought the above for their children (or themselves) ? The NXT controller should connect to my laptop via Bluetooth, but I can't get the thrice bu@@ered thing to connect  .

It sees my lappy, the lappy sees it, but they won't talk- The password is the same on the NXT unit, the LEGO software and Windows. It appears in my list of Bluetooth devices, but no dice.

I have tried stopping Windows from installing drivers, trusting the LEGO software to do its thing, nothing. I then let Windows load what it wanted, same result.

I can connect it with the USB cable which works fine, but the Bluetooth would be tops, although programming the thing is temporarily beyond me, let's blame Chrismas day for that, pro tem, eh?

Any chance Avast (free) is blocking the Bluetooth function? It gave me huge grief awhile ago, when I could receive emails but not send them... Took a man and EUR 50.- to sort that one out :(

which version of windows are you running?
Had similar problems with my son's netbook a couple of years ago and the problem was because the Lego software wouldn't work on the installed version of Win7
The netbook came with Windows 7 Starter - on which you can't install the .NET components required by the Lego software. I had to upgrade the version of Windows
Also seem to remember that the software had to be patched with downloads from the support site

Hi Milo- Windows 7 Ultimate, running on a full-fat laptop. Downloaded the latest firmware from the LEGO site for the NXT unit and installed it OK (via the USB cable), the supplied DVD also installed all the gubbins with no apparent problem on my laptop.

No big deal really, but annoying that I can't get the thing to connect via Bluetooth, esp. since all the components seem to see eachother... :(

I connected first time I used it but had intermittent problems thereafter.

Usually had to clear addresses from Windows and the NXT then start again.

Sometimes depends on the Bluetooth dongle - seems that the NXT prefers one particular set of drivers.

Not necessary to spend a fortune on the LEGO dongle, cheapos from ebay can work just as well.

Also best to make sure you have the latest firmware and Fantom driver from LEGO -

EducaTec AG - Education and Technology - LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Firmware download procedure:

LEGO.com MINDSTORMS : Support : Files - Drivers - Fantom Driver (PC & MAC)

Have a look through this site -

Oops, just given away the fact that I'm a geek!

A A Gruntpuddock- Thank God for geeks, that did it! I'm not sure quite what, but the Fantom driver thingy seems to have sorted it, dunno what it does

Many thanks, all fettled, the Tooth is now Blue :ok:

This site has some utilities to operate the motors, read sensors, etc remotely.

Bricx Command Center 3.3

If you have any experience with programming, the Bricx Command center offers a text-based language (similar to C) which many prefer to the graphic-based NXT-G.
