Mouse Wheel Scrolling Problem
Scrolling has suddenly decided to go totally wacky on my PC at home. It is running Win XP SP1 on an AMD 1700+ processor. The problem manifests itself in Windows Explorer and anything else which you can scroll around. It is impossible to work with. I have run a full Norton scan and Adaware. I deleted anything suspicious but it is still misbehaving.
Any ideas? Cheers DeepC |
Well, to start with, first uninstall and then reinstall mouse. Sounds like a software problem. If your mouse is also scrollball then chuck out the ball and clean the contacts!

DeepC,
If you give us the details on your mouse, we could find the drivers for you. Take Care, Richard |
I'll check out the details on the mouse when I get back. It is the manufacturers badged mouse that comes with my Evesham PC. Standard 2 button Wheel Mouse.
I'm pretty sure it uses the MS drivers supplied with XP. DeepC |
My son was badgering me to buy a new mouse for his PC because the old one was broken. I opened it up, cleaned the contacts and "walla" good as new!

DeepC,
Most mice will work with the Microsoft Drivers. (It is the WinXP default.) I know we can get better Drivers for your mouse. Turn the mouse upside down. See if you can tell if it is a Logitech or Microsoft Mouse or maybe some other brand. It would help knowing the actual brand in order to find the best drivers for you. (Many companies put their name on Logitech mice, so there is a possibility that your mouse is just co-branded by Evesham.) Take Care, Richard |
(Many companies put their name on Logitech mice, so there is a possibility that your mouse is just co-branded by Evesham.) I'm going to take it apart tomorrow and clean the contacts as well. I did a system restore from a point a month or so back and it worked fine for about half an hour. I scrolled through things properly. It then started to display the same problem. DeepC |
DeepC,
Before taking your mouse apart. Look on this page for your mouse and then download the latest Drivers: Logitech Mouse Download Take Care, Richard |
Cheers. Downloaded a new driver and it seems to be behaving.
Thanks very much for your help. DeepC |
DeepC,
That is great news! :ok: Take Care, Richard |
The problem reappeared with a vengeance. I eventually gave up and bought a Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse which seems to be simple but effective.
Thanks for your help. Regards DeepC |
DeepC,
If your old mouse had balls, you will really enjoy the optical mouse. ;) Take Care, Richard |
