Google? or phishing?
I have received an email from 'Google' with the following message:-
Someone just used your password to try to sign in to your account. Google blocked them, but you should check what happened.
with an invitation to click on:-
https://accounts.google.com/[email protected] &continue=https://myaccount.google.com/device-activity?rfn%3D5%26rfnc%3D1%26eid%3D-3882463678288718406%26et%3D0%26asae%3D2
If someone has my username and email address and my password - why would Google block it?
Should I respond - or is this a sophisticated phishing attempt?

Don't click on the link if you are suspicious of it.
Instead, log into your account my going to google's login page yourself.
The blocking might be by IP address geo-location.

I can log-in to my account without difficulty, but that doesn't tell me anything other than the quoted email in my inbox.
Google looks for activity that might be suspicious such as a new device (or one you haven't used for some time) using your account or connecting from places that are geographically distant from your usual haunts.

I would avoid the magic link (just in case) and just log in to google in the usual way.
You may be forced by google to change your password.

Drop google and use https://duckduckgo.com/ The Search Engine that doesn’t track you. You can even use ddg to do a google search anonymously (by adding g! to your search string).
