. Movie playback from the Internet can be subject to stuttering depending in your connection speed. If you are using wifi to connect to your router, try a direct cable connection to the router if possible and see if the pauses still occur.
I am hooked up to the internet with cable and getting good speeds, this test is recent:

Thx Mr. Jimjim1:
Yes, I have done some of the chkdsk procedures and found nothing wrong.
The PC is healthy overall, and with the attention and cleaning/updates it has gotten the last few days, it seems reasonable fast for its age.
After Norton was fired yesterday it seems perhaps a tad better as well.

I don’t have Great needs as a gamer, or with advanced video graphics, but wife is an artist and spends time in front of the PC downloading videos and sometimes watching the news. If the performance is less than stellar, I get to hear about it and hints are being dropped that I should fix it..

The iPads are being used more than the desktop PC these days and a new video card is probably not urgent, but I like my toys to work good, as the ads for the US Army says: “Be all you can be”.

Will try again to find a reasonable priced video card in town and install it. Had good intentions yesterday but got side tracked by a six pack of beer.

Well you clearly won't be happy until you have tried a new graphics card, so go for it. Nothing like a new toy to raise the spirits!

Right on. Remember this thread was more about which card to get, not if a card was needed or not. (Already had those indications in front of me, if ”userbenchmark” is to be thrusted that is.)

Test first!

TD - do you know anybody who can lend you a more current/capable graphics card? My concern would be what has caused the downturn in performance? A quick test using a borrowed card could reveal if that is indeed the culprit. If a replacement is needed, that famous online shopping site is as good as anywhere, possibly following advice from your local computer shop. Good luck!

Just a thought, but I remember that graphics cards used to change interface with some regularity. It might be worth checking the manual or taking the old one along just to be sure that you're getting a new one that will fit.

My last purchase in this department was also several years ago so I may be behind the times myself of course.

Just came from my local computer store, a huge place called Best Buy.
You’d think they have knowledge staff and a wide selection of graphic cards...?
Not really: I asked a member of the staff for guidance but he knew less than me.
I poked around the shelves with graphic cards and finally picked a mid level 2 GB card for $89.95, then read the small print: Got for Windows Vista, 7and 8.
(I am considering an upgrade to Windows 10 in the near future)
Left the store with no card in hand.
Getting tired of the project already and the ‘puter seems to run better now.
Got real toys to attend to instead, like my boat. (Home)
Yesterday was a rainy day and perfect for poking around inside the PC, today not so much.
Thx again for the help and suggestions gentlemen.

Good idea, got a buddy on the street who likes to play with PCs, he may lend me a card but he is so busy flying overtime I hardly see him anymore. Will try harder..
