Microsoft Word double sided printing

Microsoft Word double sided printing
I am very familiar (I thought) with single and double sided printing from MS Word. However I have a substantial document (initially generated by client, not me), which, notwithstanding me selecting the Word print function for single sided, continues to come out double sided.
I have tried it on a different printer (on the same network); same problem.
I have generated my own test Word document, asked for single sided, and that comes out as such without problem, so it seems something inherent in the document itself.
I have worked through all the Word options on the document but cannot see any setting which is relevant.
As a last ditch, I had to print each single page individually. There were a lot of pages ...
I have searched the web for the issue, there are many descriptions of how to switch to double sided, but none about how to make it single when it insists on coming out double
Anyone any ideas ?

I have exactly the same problem using Word (Office 365) on a Macbook Pro to a wireless connection HP Envoy printer. However printing a PDF file gives me the choice of single or double sided.
When I had an Epson I didn't have that problem.

I had the same thought. On my Mac I need to switch to 'Printer options' for every print job to select 'colour' instead of 'B&W' as this has been preset by my employer. But the fact that your own document does print single sided is puzzling. Hope you can get it sorted!
