Sad saga of wifi woes

I was happily using one of the recently conglomerated providers, landline plus broadband when it developed problems, going slower and slower. Advertised speed 10-17meg, actual was below 7meg and sometimes below 1meg.

I made the mistake of asking at the shop. Oh, they said, you need to be on the new system, sign here. What I didn't realise was that this was a whole new contract, starting again from zero.

When the day came the new system didn't appear. My old one stopped and I had no internet.

The shop referred me to their technical support phone number and after being passed around I got through to a girl who told me it was just coincidence, my router had gone down, she would send me a new one.

The new one didn't work.

Lots of phone calls to tech people, and eventually got one who actually looked at the problem. Oh, that service is not available in your area.

Meantime I kept getting texts telling me things were going to be connected.

More calls to tech, eventually to a girl who promised to disconnect me (at my request) with no further charges (I hope).

Haha! Free at last!

Returned their routers to their shop and the lad who had promised so much suddenly developed selective amnesia, couldn't remember me, couldn't remember promising an improvement, and couldn't understand that the service wasn't available in my area.

Am I going to them again? Nope!

Am I going to anyone? Nope!

I shall sign in at the library on their machines, absolutely free.

Just get an iPhone or iPad. No known virus, adware, or malware in existence that can infect them. Don't even need anti virus software

Ah,there is certainly far less chance of acquiring malware on an Apple device than a Windows device, but they are not immune from attacks. The experts will be along shortly to clarify,I'm sure

If you're using a Windows device then Adblock, a free browser extension for FF, Chrome and IE, helps enormously.
Every single infection I've seen in the past 3 years has come from malicious advertisements.

And using duckduckgo as your search engine is good for blocking Google from tracking you.
