List of Recent Documents vanishes.

Word 10 running on W7.

They sit there and work fine. Set to 25 I believe. Next day or maybe one CCleaner later, gone.

Big pain as I can't remember where I put things these days.

There has to be a switch or a box to tick but just spent ages in Options with no luck. CCleaner? Could well be, but how do I protect my list if it is the case?

Don't use CCleaner.

Yep! I used CCleaner a couple of times only to discover that some things disappeared which should have stayed, and for which there was no plausible (human) reason for their assassination.

Now very nervous about any of the 'cleanup' programs which offer their services from time to time.

Loose, my version of CC which is 4.16, offers a list at the very start of its operation that allows the placement or removal of ticks in two sets of tabs in a left hand window.

To preserve things that seem to be generally relevant, go to the 'Windows' tab and in the Windows Explorer section untick Recent Documents, Run and Other Explorer MRUs.

Then go to the 'Applications' tab and untick what for me is Office 2007 - and any other of the programs listed if you choose.

Whether or not using CCleaner is really necessary I am not sure but I have not suffered any serious grief - so far - from running it occasionally...

Maybe you need to update the version you are using...

cheers

Agreed, John. I have never had a problem with CC over many years that has not been self-induced. Running a programme with 'default settings' requires a knowlege of what they are!

I concur, never had a problem with CC. What baffles me is that when I run it, it always finds an application with Chrome to delete. Have never used Chrome and have never knowingly downloaded it. Mystery.

A Pound to a pinch of doo-doo as they say, Gemma - I would bet it is on your machine - remember we are talking Google here and they will have 'snuck it on'. It is often an 'also load' on many updates eg some of Adobe's if you are not watching!

Thanks John! Super-succinct directions. I just relied on the cookies exclusions list. Never invest enough time in learning.

I suspect Keef has an in depth knowledge of keeping things clean because I can't live without CCleaner. One pal got his computer so stodged down that I couldn't download . . . CCleaner. I run it several times a day sometimes just to keep things flying. Of course, it's very quick when it hasn't got much to do.

Chrome? Yep, and I'm so careful when downloading stuff. Chrome tried to sneak in again this week and I still get clues that it's lurking. I know one day McAffee will scamper under the portcullis as it's closing so I bet with Goo goo's skill it'll beat me.

Oh, by the way, can someone remind me how to stop the request box over video clips. Flash Player Settings - Allow Deny. It's come back after an Adobe product insisted upon an update during that WD Drive (net backup) issue. I thought it was a FireFox add on of some sort but can't find it.

Oh, BTW, that infuriating g-mail thing of time gaps before words appear on the screen, stopped after messing with the FF Add-ons. Because I wasn't looking for that result, I have no idea which one was causing the problem.

If it's causing a problem, I suggest that you stop using it.
I've never used CC Cleaner yet somehow my PCs (and the few dozen that I "manage") all operate perfectly

"If it's causing a problem" - I don't believe it is. It is the way it is being used that is.

I used CCleaner a couple of years ago, once, on a "try it and you'll like it" offer.
It removed a lot of stuff that was needed. It took me a while to restore. I don't let it near the computer since that episode.

When my hard drive was getting a bit full, I bought a bigger one.

I clear out individual bits - temporary files directories and such. I empty the recycle bin every month or so. I've not had any problems that way.

"It removed a lot of stuff that was needed."

"I don't let it near the computer since that episode."
Sounds like a good decision.
