Nexus tablet file access

Nexus tablet file access
Years of Windoze has made me regimented in file access methods - select folder, check contents, etc. Have a number of photos on SD cards and an OTG cable for the Nexus. Trying to access them has me stumped Any help and advice for this would be much appreciated - in other words, is there a Windows Explorer equivalent in 'tablet world' ?
TIA
TIA
Plug n go
No idea what OTG means but I just plug my Galaxy S2 into the computer and root around with Window Explorer until I find the files I want. The phone appears like a USB stick with it's own drive letter.
I think that the behaviour when connected can be altered but as I recall mine defaulted to USB stick emulation.
Device MUST be unlocked, i.e. not at lock screen.
In my case:-
Photos are in \DCIM\Camera
Downloads in \download
bluetooth downloads in \bluetooth
screenshots in \Picture\screenshots
You clearly want to be very careful not to damage the system files. They may be protected I don't know and don't want to find out:-)

Nexus: a standard USB cable will hook you up to your computer nicely. The OTG cable is if you want to do things backwards as it were: hook stuff like a wired keyboard, hub, external HD, external card reader, USB memory sticks etc. to your Nexus.

Thank you JJ1 and Bushfiva.
The 'OTG' cable is 'On The Go' - one end has a mini USB and the other a USB female so you can plug card readers into the tablet. There is a file transfer app which allows transfer of card contents to the tablet - supposedly but although I can get that working on the Nexus smart phone, it doesn't appear to work on the tabletHave downloaded two different "File Managers" from Google Play or Shop or whatever it is, neither appear able to access the card contents. All this is probably down to my total failure to understand the Android concept ... sandwich shortage and picnics etc!! If anyone understands what i am trying to achieve, simpleton-type advice would be greatly appreciated
TIA

Try ES File Explorer File Manager. Good program which I use on my android devices to root around to sometimes rename files and also to find films on my server to stream to the tablet.
