Java problem.

I'm using W7 Home Premium and Firefox (updated to v12 today, previously a much older version).

I have previously accessed the live-timing at Formula 1 without problems until a couple of weeks ago (Barcelona) when it failed to load citing Java as the problem. Same problem in IE.

Same problem today, so I've uninstalled all Java, upgraded Firefox to v12 and re-installed Java (both 32 and 64 versions) - no change to the situation, and I've also disabled NoScript (though this wasn't a problem prior to May 2012).

I've also had problems viewing the 360 degree view at:- AS90 Self-Propelled Gun - British Army Website
with the following report:-
Quote:
Java Plug-in 10.4.0.22

First of all both sites work ok with FireFox,(V13 in my case).

The Java plug-in for FireFox is V1.6.0_32 and the java platform version is 'SE 6 U32 6.0.320.5 (From tools>add-ons>plugins

And why are you trying to apparently access things through http://www.lbi.com/, which is a global marketing and technology agency?

Where did you get your java from?

Java sourced from an online search.

Have you a 'safer' source?

Thanks for the clues.

I'll research my Firewall . . .

Agree with GG. I'm on 7/64 Home Premium, FF 12 - I just stopped the auto updates, so not on 13. Use M/S Sec. Essentials.
Java plug in same no as GG, and working OK as far as I can tell.
Java and FF did appear to have a conflict on my machine a couple of FF updates ago, but fine now. Had to delete Java completely and start again.

download from:

Download Free Java Software

Suggest you unistal java, check to see the folder has been removed from C : \ program files x86 then run the registry cleaner in CC cleaner and clear out any registry entries, also check it has been removed from add ons>plugins in FF then download from above, and instal.

Sorted, many thanks.

I suspect that the 'problem' might have been due to Zone-Alarm (judging by the dates of installation and the initial occurrence of the 'blocking').

Now I can, once again, enjoy F1 practice sessions by watching the lap-times 'live'.

It's been frustrating not having access!

good example of why I think for most people third party software firewalls are counterproductive
they create more problems than they solve

Perhaps Milo, with the oddity of the http ://www.lbi.com/ appearing in the java report, the firewall was doing it's job.

Following the advice, I looked through what I had installed since a known successful period, and the ZoneAlarm fell into that category.

In addition to uninstalling ZA I uninstalled Java (again) and several other 'unwanted' items (such as the bitching messages for an initially free programme that was supplied installed with the computer now requesting payment).

I then followed the link for Java and installed it and, hey presto! it worked . . .

The only 'annoyance' was the constant restarts required between uninstalls.
