Avast upgrade and Zone Alarm

For Info:

Upgraded Avast (free version) restarted windows 7 and it became treacle like and impossible to do anything, restarted, disabled zone alarm which then allowed Avast to finish the install restarted Zone Alarm and all is now sweetness and light.

Its a bug in the Avast upgrade routine
I've had several machines this week where the upgrade setup carries on after a reboot and "hangs" because the machine runs out of free RAM. In each case I've had to disable other startup programs to allow Avast to complete
Some of these machines have been rebooted six or seven times with the same problem, until the startup was streamlined

Latest program update caused a complete screw up of my HTPC.
Checked the net and there are many others having problems with this latest version. Looks like Avast have screwed up.

Uninstalled now.

Looking for a new antivirus.

In terms of detection abilities, Avira is conssitently close to Avast. its not as comprehensive in what it does though. If you use it you need to make sure you have additional antimalware installed to protect the browsers - Spybot S&D and Spyware Blaster both together are a good idea
