How do I quote another post in a reply?!
Never had a problem figuring it out in other forums, but on PPRUNE I've never been able to get the quote function to work!
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!

Either click the 'reply' button in the post, then when you get the new screen go to the http:// stuff at the top of the page, click at the end, and delete the figure 1 and hit enter. you will then get the whole of the post.
Alternatively copy and paste the bit you want to quote, and precede it in your reply by [ QUOTE ] and put [ /QUOTE ] at the end, omitting the spaces I've typed... otherwise I would have got
- which wouldn't have helped much.

Cut and paste required text and then click on the 3rd symbol from the right in the reply toolbar, next to the hash and youtube symbols. Just don't quote me on that

jimtherev's method is the one to go for. At least you know which post the quote refers to by clicking on the small arrowhead after his username.

No, not true. If I had wanted the whole post I would have left it like this:
but there's nothing stopping you editing the quote to emphasis the point you wish to quote as I did in two posts above.

The quote function as performed by the button on the toolbar requires javascript to work. If you haven't got that enabled then you can manually put QUOTE and /QUOTE, each wrapped in square brackets, around the text you wish to be quoted.

To copy on a tablet the trick is to use a long (in duration) click or touch which brings up a menu. Choose 'select text' which should bring up two cursors. Move these to select the desired portion of text, then do a copy (which is either another long touch or a visible key atop the screen). This may be slightly different in ipad.
Long click/touch is the android equivalent of a windows mouse right click and usually brings up a useful menu. Not sure how similar ipad is.
If you otg a mouse, the right click becomes 'back'.

Many thanks one and all.
What threw me and generated my last post is that the blue box does not appear in preview post, and this is the odd thing, it does not appear when I post. I have to leave the site and when I come back? Eureka the box is there!
Back to the tar pit!

I don't know much about iPad, but I'm pretty sure there is a way to manipulate the URL there too. I have a couple of Android devices and I can do that on those.

On an iPad tap and hold in the URL box, when insert cursor appears scroll right (i.e. keep holding and move your hand to the right) to the end, backspace over the 1 and insert a 0 (that's a zero not an Ohh)
Hmmm wonder if this works:
Ah-ha ….!!!!
