Internet freezes when I click on a link.
For the last few months, my internet freezes (I get the egg timer), when I click on a link within a web page.
I've upgraded from internet explorer 6, to IE7, and I've downloaded updates from windows, but still no joy.
I'm running windows xp home edition, and the Norton security.
Many thanks.ginge.

It sounds like a security settings problem - either within IE or your firewall.
Try adding a site to your Trusted Sites Zone in IE, and try (briefly) to access a (safe) site with the FW switched off. It might help you to narrow down the troubleshooting.

Have a look at the top of the browser window, and see if there is an information bar there ( I found one today), IE doesnt seem to make it too obvious its there. If there, it prob;y says click here to allow access or something similar.

Could also try clearing out all temp files, cookies and histories using IE7 tools - internet options. may be something lurking in there or its reached a limit and has nowhere to store new stuff.

I was having similar problems. I have updated to NIS2009 via a download from Symantec, which is free if you have a current 2008 subscription, i.e it uses the same product key. Browser speeds have improved and Windows start-up is far faster. It also has a crude performance monitor, which shows how much of your processing power is being used by Norton.
I also find CTRL+F5 can sometimes improve the link response, presumably by rerouting the request.
Of course the performance improvements could all be a coincidence!

My company manages around 1% off the world's internet domains. We've been having some mysterious internet problems lately. Could you please stop clicking so that the internet stops freezing ?
