Winsock Reset!!!

Help!
I uninstalled Norton Security Center.

Now I can't access Internet.

IE Diagnostics says to reset the winsock catalog. This I have done but it still won't work.
I've run Winsockxpfix, still won't work.

Tried Regcure. It finds lots of problems but I'm not sure if I have to pay up front to register it to get the key to fix the problems.

ErrorSmart was the same.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Thanks, extreme, I tried that but no fix.

My wireless connection works fine as I can still connect to my home network, printer etc.

I have tried LSPFix and other programs fromCEXX but still no fix.

Next step is reinstalling IE7.

Not sure how much data I will lose if I do this so I'm not rushing into it.

Thanks again.

Did you run the Norton Removal Tool after uninstalling it?
Superantispyware (Free/demand, paid/resident versions) has a toolkit that claims to (among several other things) repair this. At least in XP.( Using XP?)
It's also a darned good scanner/cleaner.

Sorry, yes it's WIN XP. Svce Pk 2.

System Restore, won't!

Tried 5 different restore points going back 2 weeks and it keeps rebooting with the same result "Unable to restore".

No I didn't run the Norton removal tool.

It was only the security centre I was removing. I use AVAST Anti-virus and was running Zone Alarm up until recently when I reverted back to Windows own firewall to eliminate the home network hassles I was getting.

It's a real pain as I also can't get my other PCs to pick up my laptop emails (different email address, same server).
But that's another story.

BOAC, I tried that first of all and it still won't work.

Thanks again for your attention.

Well this is just wierd now.

Windows Live Messenger works after I ran the repair function in 'add/remove programs'.

Still no Internet access or email through Outlook express.

Re install programs methinks.

An Update...

For all those who offered advice.

Eventually, I tried a system restore in safe mode.

It worked after about 2 hrs muttering to itself.

However, I had this wierd problem with internet access, after initial boot up, it worked for about 3 mins then wouldn't get a reply from the requested website.

Email & Messenger all worked fine.

I sussed it in the end, when I tied to turn off Zone Alarm.

The program would not open, even though Norton Security Centre indicated that it was enabled.

Uninstalled Zone Alarm, reinstated Windows Firewall.

Success!

Thanks again to all who offered advice.

Hope this helps if you have just found it in your search.
What year is it now?
