CD Writer?

I looking a CD DRIVE that can burn music tracks onto a blankCD, had a look on Ebay and am utterly confused, loads of em saying DVD RW CD player compatible with blah blah blah, can all these bits of kit write from the puter to a blank CD disc?
Had a shuffty at me nephews machine and it has two things that look like CD type drives, one that says DVD player and another that says CD Writer
So what exactly does Drapes want, what exactly is the common name or technical term for a CD burner, EBay seach seems to general ??
Thank you in advance peeps.

Thank you Mr Charlie for that very comprehesive answer,I shall prolly just pop into the local computer store and buy one there,
I don't need DVD copying or playing just plain straight forward audio copying ability.
Thanks again.
