The present TAF for SBGL has the following remark at the end

RMK PGU

Can anybody tell me what it means (and a link to a site that might have local remarks listed?)

The TAFs and METARs follow a mostly ICAO standard, it might differ a little depending on the provider you get it. We usually use www.redemet.aer.mil.br .
The RMK on hte end refers to the person who issued it.

youre welcome, btw i noticed many captains, even instructors here didnt knew that either.
In fact by coincidence i just talked about that this morning with our Safety, and his comment about that was, they might have a bet going on, who predicts the wheater best!
Never mind, if you like Brazilian curiosities try to get the local Notams! In SDUs (close to GIG) ATIS they have a 3 digit Windspeed, guess this might be unique in the world, POA and CNF have a different RWY temperature! ATIS in VCP always mentions they dont have anchor poits available in the GA ramp, when actually they dont have an actuall GA ramp anymore!
Caution with vultures!!! according to some ATIS they might be flying in the middle of the night
...not to mention the poor English from some controlers, who come up with things that already got me tears from laughing.

PS. Want some excitement? Take off from Rwy33 in GIG during the day..now that´s what I call exciting!

I had issues with birds at night too, in PIN, MGF, NVT, etc some stick to the RWY or TWY due to the nestling warm conditions. I d experienced in FOR a bird that went straight through our Engine while on the run... But never seen a vulture fly at night! although some ATIS even specify it on their transmissions. I think Rio in general is quite challenging, the terrain, airport locations, sometimes the wheater, traffic, overloaded controllers, ineficient SIDs and STARs (why not let fly via?!) and ultimately the diversity of operations. BTW, prefer operate GIG 33 than SDU 02!
I think some elements of Atis were recorded when they introduced it and the DECEA never cared about updating it...

I agree with you, SBRJ Rwy 02 always has flock of birds, not, big birds! In the very short final!

In North America, the largest numbers of bird strikes happen during the spring and fall migrations. Bird strikes above 500 feet altitude are about 7 times more common at night than during the day during the bird migration season.
