Jobs in Canada for expats
Hi guys!
I plan to move to Canada, still working on my paperwork.
What are the chacnes for a foreigner to get a flying job? I have 3000hrs, 1500 of which is CFI and 1500 is Cessna Caravan PIC. Don't mind to do something similar.
Any places/times to go for a job search? Any tips in general?

Don't mind Zombywoof, there is a big amount of that kind of guys trying to discourage expats to go to Canada either on PPRUNE or AVCANADA. I am also pretty sure that if you combine all of these people's IQ you would probably end up not to far from that plate of fries he is talking about.
Canadians are very difficult with the paperwork but it is possible to get them. If you are legal in the country there are many opportunities.

I don't have a Flight Safety course, all the training was done on an actual airplane by my employer in Tanzania.

dont listen to the haters on avcanada! they'll tell you not to come and that you are wasting your time, for the most part act they act like they are god's gift to aviation. Most of them are either unemployed or flying small planes up whilst working the ramp up north. That type of behaviour isn't one which most professional pilots portray. Follow your goals, and do what's right for you.

Almost every other country in the modern world ensures that their own get hired before foreigners. Why should Canada be different? It seems to me that only after Canadian pilots are all employed then Canada would be happy to have your expertise. That's only fair. It's not personal.

He is working on his paperwork. We are assuming that he will have PR status and the requisite Canadian licenses in the not too distant future.
Please enlighten us all on whether he still has to stand at the back of the line with his experience or is he still considered a 'foreigner' in the eyes of Canadian employers.

Assuming you have the right to work in Canada , there should be no discrimination . If you feel that there is I encourage you to contact Human Resource Canada. That sort if behaviour should never be tolerated.

1. There are thousands of unemployed pilots all over the world. How many of them tried to meet requirements of a job market in their countries by flying elsewhere?Citizenship is not a guarantee of a job without expirience.
2. There are no illegal pilots in Canada, everybody who flies is qualified for his job and got his paperowrk done. I'm kinda obvious here but people just keep asking this question too often.
There is a bunch of ways to get a legal right to work in Canada.
- get open work permit through express entry.
- get restricted work permit for a particular employer through "Labour Market Impact Assesment".
- send your spouse to Canada for education.
- get education in Canada and apply for an internship.
And many many more. These four I consider as the cheapest in order from the top to the bottom and the most possible in order from the bottom to the top. I don't see a reason why at least one of them wouldn't work.

It's a simple concept...if you have the "right to work" and the qualifications feel free to apply, if you don't then you won't get a job. The "thousands of unemployed pilots" around the world who can't find work in their own countries don't have much hope as their own countries don't have the jobs available. The pilots from Canada who you believe are working in the EU or UK or Asia or the ME all have the proper and recognized rights. They are not stealing jobs, as you infer. Those who work for example in the Middle East or Asia are filling positions that can't be filled by locals. The numbers of locals with the proper credentials aren't enough fill the positions. The foreign pilots (Canadians et al) will eventually have to leave or retire as the programs to qualify those pilots (the local guys and girls) are meant to replace the current employees. The cadet programs at many of these airlines are designed to do that. It's a well known program. Many countries replace foreign pilots as their own become qualified. Canada does not have that program, and should rightly fill entry level pilot jobs with their own before bringing in others to fill those jobs. Simple...Not to denigrate your wish to work in Canada, I'm sure you're excellent people, with great experience. Nevertheless, if there are properly qualified unemployed pilots in Canada, those jobs should be filled first by those pilots, and then the rest. It works that way in many countries.
