Bombardier to sell waterbomber division to Viking Air
DH Canada couldn't survive alone IMHO.
The union in that shop is radical. They still think they are like a crown corporation.
Even Boeing couldn't make it work and they sold it to Bombardier.
Without the sale to Bombardier, DH would probably be dead today.
Bombardier management probably had to twist the union's arms to get concessions to make it work.
Anyway, IMHO, I don't think DH on its own would survive for very long.

With all respect... Bombardier cannot survive on its own. It's a behemoth that survives only due to the huge amounts of cash that you and I as taxpayers pour into it.
Whether we like it or not.

DH ???? It hasn't been DH for 30 or 40 years, I agree about the motivation, did a tour of the factory, a few years back mind you and heard there was a bonus in place for employees who made it in to work for a WHOLE month in a row.

We used to have a subsidiary outfit in QC where the unionized hourly-paid employees would get 'Presentation' payments of 1 hour per day....
=
"Thanks for turning up to work, chaps & chapesses. Now here's an extra hour's pay for your efforts!"
(Needless to say, the operation was hopelessly uneconomic and was eventually closed down... Everyone was happy - they don't even have to turn up anywhere now to collect E.I.)

Downsview's still referred to inside Bombardier as De Havilland like Belfast is still Short's and Montreal still Canadair - at least by the old hands. They still have separate Design and Certification teams although the line does blur with the larger programs.
