CPPC Nov 2015 enews
"We currently have 1,745 member names on file, but only 480 of you have active "in good standing" membership. There is strength in numbers. Your profession needs your support! I am currently one of the 480 in good standing. This number is disappointing, however recently more disappointing is the lack of correspondence I have had when contacting CPPC. I recently wrote the CPPC to voice some concerns, mainly pertaining to the direction the college plans for our future. I have not heard back so I thought maybe I could start some discussions here.
Most importantly, if I am part of this college, how am I being represented if anyone with a commercial license, or working towards on can sign up? Who are the 1744 other members, and how can we assure these are professional individuals who represent the values of being a Professional Pilot?
Are we just too small to really be what this is meant to be? I just find myself confused as to why I have paid my dues every year. Other professional associations are responsible for discipline of its members. Your entry to a professional association should be a privilege and not a right. It's not about paying your annual dues, it's about conducting yourself as a professional. If you act in a way that is unprofessional, and don't respect the CAR's, SOP's and the lives and cargo you transport, you should be disciplined by our organization accordingly.
Should CPPC focus on working with TC and the Airlines before asking Canadian Pilots to sign up? Should the driving force of this organization not come from the top downwards and not vise versa? I am not signing up to be part of a Union. I really could care less about flight perks etc, my benefits should be provided by my employer. What I would like is the opportunity to be a member where I hold a professional designation that would set me apart from those who choose to break the rules. CPPC should be on your resume after experience and education, maybe the CPPC designation would be a requirement to apply to some airlines.
How can CPPC be taken seriously if we just hand out memberships with no meaning behind it? Have I missed what CPPC is about?
