Way back when EPA was flying I was told by one of their pilots that about once a week a pax would finish up in St Johns rather than St John, and the reverse of this, and of course there have been many others over the years.

I can understand getting St John and St Johns mixed up, but Toronto and Montreal? He's blaming the gate staff for the error, but he obviously made a mistake as well by going to the wrong gate.
And don't they usually scan your boarding pass at the gate these days anyway?
Anyway, it sounds like this guy is a bit of an arrogant, annoying asshat, and that's why he was kicked off his Toronto flight.

Good Evening All:
My thought is this did he not check the boarding pass he was issued when he got to the gate?
Did the gate agent not announce Flight XXXX to Montreal now ready for boarding?
Or was there an impairment issue here from a visit to the bar?

Good Morning Yobbo
Since you are south of the equator and not familiar with Canadian place names it can be St John Saint John or CYSJ...

It's actually St. John's in Newfoundland. (With the apostrophe) Many place names in Newfoundland are "possessive".
Having said that, I don't think the airline is ultimately responsibly for passengers who get on the wrong airplane. They share the blame of course but you need to take a little responsibility for your travel.

it can be St John
As for the Loyalist City in New Brunswick, there is only a single correct spelling and that is definitely Saint John.

Allo a330 pilote,
It appears you missed several lectures in elementary school geography. My guess is you're located in UPPER CANADA. Ignorance is not an excuse, it's Saint John, N.B (CYSJ).

Bonsoir Monsieur Yobbo
Silly me I looked at Google Maps for another place in the maritimes and it showed St John
Should never trust a map by our friends south of the border

Cluncdriver - I am afraid that your knowledge of English is rather poor. The apostrophe followed by an "s" does not indicate plural but possessive i.e. belonging to.

It might not be the airline's fault (note possessive, as in St John's - ha ha), but it sure makes a mockery of the whole security thing doesn't it, if a bloke can get on any plane he likes with any ticket?

Shytehawk, you are right, however "Clunck" has a "K" in it, now we have got this out of the way I think if the title of this piece had been "Pasenger gets on wrong aircraft" it would have given the incident a whole new "bent". As for my English, having spent part of my initial schooling in the UK, {thus avoiding being made into a bar of soap by the "Master Race",} I will blame this on their education system , by saying this I can avoid responsobility for my error, just like this chap avoids owning his own stupidity! And Darkroom, you are so right with regards to airport security, the only airport which gets this right is TelAviv.

Everyone else knew which plane they were getting on.
Instead of realizing it was his mistake, sheet happens and hussling to the proper gate he chooses to b!tch out the agent.
Who is really at fault here?
