More Airbus NBs for AC ?

I saw over in Airliners.net a suggestion that, as the E190s start to leave late this year/early next, that AC will lease for 3-5 years 5 A320ceo and 8 A321ceo. These would remain in place until the 737s start to arrive. Suggestion was made by a fellow who I believe is a 767 driver for AC, so I would give it some credence.

I believe as part of the 737 deal, Boeing agreed to take as trade-in and remarket 25 of the 45 E190s.

Still don't like it as a passenger, 320 family is more comfortable. But from a biz case p.o.v., the E190 trade-in reduces cash cost somewhat, and for the MAX, the cockpit layout and symbology is identical to the 777/787, making pilot cross-training that much easier, which is also a cost reducer.

20 e190 leaving replaced by 10 A320-21 not more narrow body but 10 less, from a pilot's perspective anyways and with the 319's being rouged, that's lots of good job disappearing....

Apparently not, and it's a point of contention with some Boeing customers that due to the "Southwest effect", the MAX will not be upgraded to a common cockpit with the 777 / 787.

The B737 MAX is a cop out for Boeing. Very disappointing and unlikely to bring Air Canada much in the way of an overall fleet benefit.
I would say the same about the NEO (new engine only).
The Americans are taking over aviation in case you haven't noticed and that "Southwest effect" isn't going away any time soon.

Is the A320/19 expected to be the long term narrowbody choice for Rouge going forward? Or will the Max eventually replace the Airbus at Rouge?

"Going Forward?" Bafflegab for "In the future?" That's right up there with "At this point in time" {Now?} "Impact" {Effect?} and so it goes on, the bastardisation of the English language! Sorry, to be so anal, but even the CBC is no longer a protector of English , if I receive another CV with "aircrafts" I swear I will not hire another employee, ever! {end of rant}

You do sound like an anal dork. Quit wasting our time with your boring blathering... Languages evolve over time.

Anyone care to answer the question? Were the Max aircraft acquired to stay in AC mainline or are they meant to also replace the A320s at Rouge?

Cheers

AC doesn't want to stay with the 319s. It wasn't the best choice but likely what hey thought had the best chance of getting past the arbitrator in FOS. They have already approached ACPA about 320s at Rouge but with no gains for the pilots so they got a no. But IMO if they don't get them soon they will get them when the 737s start arriving at mainline and it would then be a short stretch to move to a 737 800/900 fleet at Rouge.

Iver, I'm told you make a short duty day seem like a week, now I think I understand why this was said!

Clunckdriver

Great rant!
I'd like to point a finger at a failing Canadian education system that hasn't picked up on this erosion of the English language either.
My favourite CBC expression would sound like this...

"At the end of the day", "Can you give us a sense" of how Air Canada will determine their fleet redistribution of "aircrafts" "moving forward".

Good Gawd! Gimme a gun!!!

the young uns just don't get it

Iver,

I think you're outnumbered. I'm with clunckdriver on this one. There is a difference between language evolving and writing useless, redundant nonsense.

The whole point of language is to communicate. Concise, clear language leads to concise, clear communication which is usually important, particularly in aviation.

You could have removed 'going forward' without changing the meaning of your sentence one iota. Starting the next sentence with 'Or' is a completely different issue, which I won't go into now. At least you didn't 'boldly go'!

Unfortunately, this is not a new problem. Years ago, I heard a piece on As It Happens, where Barbara Frum was interviewing a UBC English professor, who was bemoaning the fact that they had to provide remedial English lessons to first-year students. He described a student's essay which contained a sentence that had no verb in it!

IN THE END AND GOING FORWARD, being "outnumbered" by a bunch of grammar nerds does not bother me. AT THE END OF THE DAY and FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH, I really don't care. This is an aviation forum and not an English class. I asked a simple question about the future Rouge fleet and you provide a condescending and boring response. INTO THE FUTURE, either skip the post or answer the question. Simple as that.

Iver, next time you write a CV, get someone else to write it for you, you seem to be blissfully unaware that writing "Bafflgab" such as you do ,will in most cases , result in employers dumping your CV into file thirteen, {that's what I, and many others making pilot hiring decisions do}.

I'VE BEEN ROUGED!!!!

Had the great misfortune last Thursday to be SLF on a Rouge A319 from MCO-YYZ.

Without doubt, the most uncomfortable flight I have ever been on. Not sure what the seat pitch was but it felt about 28".

They tell me that Veal Calves by law have to have 36"!!!!

NEVER AGAIN!!! And what the hell is all that about with the stupid hats the cabin crew have to wear????????

er340790,

You should have become a "Seat Guru" and then maybe you wouldn't have been "Rouged"

Go to this page and read the comments!
SeatGuru Seat Map Air Canada Airbus A319 (319) Premium rouge

Economy 28" pitch by 18" wide!

Air Canada seems to be determined to drive customers away. Have a look at the comments about the high-density (10 abreast) 777s that they have introduced:

Even the business class seats are smaller than before. They've lost my business to Cathay on the Hong Kong to Vancouver run.

I read that the cabin crews refer to them as "slave ships".

I always ask for a seat between two 300 pound, unwashed, breast feeding women with twins!
