Harrassment of a "VIP" passenger

On the radio news this morning (Saturday) it was reported that David Beckham will either not fly BA again or is considering not doing so due to harrassment by cabin crew asking for autographs and taking photos.

I would have thought it would be easy enough to stop this, merely by having a word with the senior cabin crew member when boarding - is my view too simplistic or unrealistic?

They shouldnt be doing it anyway. Might explain the notice sent out a few months ago prohibiting asking for autographs.

Yes and No. If you are famous or well known and pay good money to travel First/Upper/Business - you still expect to be treated with the same respect that every other passenger is treated, no more and no less. You do not expect to be pestered by anybody, let alone by bloody cabin crew who should know better. If your passenger offers their autograph or something similar, well that's different.

My experience to date is that only one "celebrity" has been so over the top - he was wearing a golden sequin jacket with a large union flag, also in sequins, on the rear and was happily and freely chatting with everyone around him, that you could be forgiven for approaching him in a familiar manner.

So if Mr Beckham and his family would like to fly with another airline, that will suit me fine. We will treat him and everybody else who pays our wages with respect.

They let Traveller Class cabin attendants into the First Clas area?

Egad!

Could this be the future of BA star struck youngsters let loose on a high profile route? Surely not......I'll have my house on it returning to the professionals in the next reshuffle please!

David Beckham is well known for being delightful and generous in chatting to the cabin crew and giving autographs.

I think he has every right to be angry over the incident. However I think it unlikely he will transfer all his business to another airline because of the antics of one idiotic stewardess who will doubtless have been reprimanded.

I suspect she might not be quite as boastful as usual to her friends about how she carried David Beckam to LAX.

Omnipresent 19th Nov 2012 12:21

The real story is how this story got into the press in the first place. I doubt it was from The Beckhams.

vctenderness 19th Nov 2012 12:41

I find some of the comments here about David Beckham very unprofessional.

He is a very high profile, very wealthy and talented young man.

He seems a very loving father and good family man.

He has every right to fly in peace and quite and to be able to relax without being disturbed by star struck hosties.

Any crew member trying to take photos of any passenger in any cabin would have felt the very rough side of my tongue!

Tableview 19th Nov 2012 15:33

From all accounts he is a very pleasant and decent man, which is more than can be said for most people in the football world. He is a good role model for youngsters, and despite my disinterest in football, I have considerable respect for him.

His wife ......... another story!

I would like it to be known that if BA would care to upgrade me to First Class on my next flight with them I will have absolutely no objections to Flight Attendants queuing for my autograph, photographs, etc ;)

B Fraser 21st Nov 2012 21:24

They upgraded me to First last time I went long haul and then had the temerity to bother me with offers of alcohol.

It was bloody marvelous

As I previously said elsewhere, BA need some 'Carson characters' as CSD's to look after the Lords and ladies!Perhaps then the standards of service would rise.

B Fraser 22nd Nov 2012 07:13

But would Carson insist that 09:30 is not too early for a pre-takeoff glass of champagne ?

DB was spotted by my cousin's kids in the high street a few years back and could not do enough by way of autographs and a photo, he's a real gent.

crewmeal 23rd Nov 2012 05:25

No Carson would say "It's cocktail hour somewhere in the world my Lord" as we did back in the 70's.

Then there were no pads, pods, touches, smartphones. The nearest we got was ipon which would be substituted for a whistle on a lifejacket demo.

DownIn3Green 26th Nov 2012 22:01

All well and good...BUT...maybe he should consider a private "VIP" jet...No Security, No Airport Hassle, and most important...NO ONE'S BUSINESS!!!

He certainly can afford it...

Avitor 26th Nov 2012 22:25

A chap called Redknapp is also after his autograph.

The Royal Family 27th Nov 2012 07:44

Now this is an easy one, where does David Beckham now live? Los Angeles.
And he's complaining about British Airways.
So, Los Angeles+ British Airways = mixed fleet :ugh:

Expect more of this from the image obsessed, big brotha loving, OK Hello reading wannabes who inhabit a lot of CC roles these days.
A good purser would have delt with this there and then..that assumes of course Mr B bought it to the attention of the purser.
There is also the rather tricky question of pissing off those that serve you...something I would think twice about.
If true, it's a sad indictment of people never having learned how to behave appropriately.
Said as the hubby of a 10 year BA veteran CC.

No longer ATC 27th Nov 2012 15:57

Indeed Haughtney- I myself did 13 years with BA and never once asked a "celeb" for an autograph....it's just not professional (IMHO).
