United Airlines flight attendants help passenger delivering baby boy

On the United Airlines Chicago-Brussels flight 2 days ago (8th of January) the flight attendants came across something extraordinary.

A passenger was in labor and the crew came to the rescue. The flights attendants helped delivering a baby crossing the Atlantic Ocean. The flight continued to Brussels as the delivery of the baby boy was successful. Upon arrival paramedics met the mother and her baby but both were “healthy and doing just fine”. The baby will get the name of the captain, the happy mother announced in the hospital.

It's always nice to see a good-news story.
But, can you explain again, what part did the captain play to deserve the honour??

Presumably a little premature? In 1981 B.A. refused to my wife at seven months pregnant a flight from Heathrow to Oslo. We finished up travelling there by ferry from Newcastle.
Very nice it was too. The North sea was like a millpond all the way there and only mildly unsettled on the return seven days later.
