Feedback on Flight Mode/jump seat occupancy and window shades
Dear All,
Sincerely requesting you all to come up with your feedback on the following querries:
1. In case of 04 crew operation where one of the crew from the forward is not in a position to operate the flight , can we have one crew manning the forward floor level exits and 02 in the aft?
2. Is it mandatory to have all the window shades up (open ) for take off and landing or only at the overwing down ( open ) ?
3. As per the new regulation mobile phones can be kept in the Airplane Mode throughout the flight. How about the tablets and laptops with the same facility ?

As TightSlot says a lot of this will depend on your airline's SOPs.
From my cabin crew days...
1) I assume you're referring to reduced crew compliment here? Then yes you can, provided the legal crew
ax ratio is maintained.
2) Certainly was my airline's policy.
3) Yes there is no reason why not. Tablets and laptops must be stowed securely for take-off and landing though, be it under the seat, in the seat back pocket or in the overhead lockers. This was a grey area, but many people believed them being left on laps was not a good idea as they could easily become projectiles during a rejected take-off. I would imagine there is an official line on it now.

I'll take the liberty of answering for a largish European carrier:
1. As per Average-Punter's answer.
2. Wherever the passenger wishes.
3. Larger devices such as laptops, DVD players will be stowed but you can use tablets, e-readers, MP3 players, smartphones at all times. All devices should be "airplane mode" throughout except for taxi in.
The important point is that the above are part of the airline's policy, approved by the local regulator and this week's EASA regulations. For what it's worth, I believe the above policies both reasonably liberal and realistic.
