Cabin Crew Harness

Hello can any fellow cabin crew members / pilots or someone that knows answer a few questions for me please?

What are the general size of the crew jumpseat harnesses if someone can sit in a pax seat without an extension seatbelt should they be able to sit in a jumpseat?

Also what would you describe as "too big" to fit out the overwing exits of the A319/320?

Regards

I would allow anyone to sit next to the overwing exit, providing they do not need an extension belt.

As for the crew harness, I am unable to answer the max size, I only know of 1 crew member loosing there job as they were flying around without a harness properly done up due to size.

If I can read between the lines here. Are you wondering if you, as a pax, can occupy a jump seat if you are too large to fit in a normal seat. The answer is no.

May I add that as I was told not to allow pax to occupy jumpseats unless vital (e.g someone in the galley getting attention for medical reasons etc)
The harnesses are size adjustable but on the boeings if you are over equivalent of size 50 chest (uk) the shoulder harness's will not fit if I remember correctly.

Years ago, we had a crew member (unaffectionately known as Gonzo) who was unable to fasten his crew harness around his ample salad-free gut without using an extension seat belt. No one bothered to write him up as the airline was going through a sizeist crisis at the time.

Just had a flood of memories as I was the one that gave him the name Gonzo!

There was also another chap on Eurofleet who could not get into the harness he was suspended until he could.

Once flew with a crew out of the east coast of Oz who definitely wouldn't have gone out the o/w of a 737. Lucky for them I guess they never seemed to get rostered on it...!

The 2 times I was rostered with this person I was literally sitting with one butt cheek off the double jumpseat since they took up 3/4 of it! Reason for ground duties if you ask me.

Havig said that, if the original question is, "am i too big to be a flight attendant", I have flown with girls about a AU size 16 who could fit in it no problem. Over that you might start to have issues. It does depend on aircraft type though, generally the smaller the aircraft the smaller the crew need to be!
